Just bought our first home — Need Furniture — Help?

Rena T asked:

My fiance and I just purchased our first home in Bergen County, NJ. (YAY!!!!) We are in desperate need of furniture - diningroom table, cocktail/end tables, bedroom chest/bedside tables, computer desk & chair, etc.

We also have a wedding coming up in a year and need to buy affordable, but decent furniture. Can anyone provide some stores/online stores??

Thanks!

Any tips on how to market and sell open boxes, freight damage, returns, and floor sample home furniture?

stufurhome asked:

We just opened furniture store that sells returns, freight damage and open box home furniture. We get our products from www.homelegance.com. I am having a real hard time to get people into the store, since we are located in an industrial area with no foot traffic. I put ads in craigslist and local newspapers and it is just not effective. Once we get people in, they usually buy because of our great prices and that they don’t mind that the items are a little damage. I guess the question is does anyone out there have any tips on who might be interested in these items in bulk or where else should I advertise and call. We just have too much of these furniture and our supplier wants us to move these items quickly. Any pointers would be helpful. Also we are trying to develop an online presence at www.stufurhome.com to move these items online. Do you think that will work?

Purchasing Furniture (YIKES)?

Miz Patti asked:

I have spent most of the day shopping for furniture prices online. During my search I learned that retailers mark up the price of furniture anywhere from 40%-100% that they receive from the manufacturer/supplier. The bedroom suite I’m looking at is $11,000 (this is for 10 pieces) There has to be a way to cut out the middle man and pay thousands of dollars less. I live in Greenville, SC which puts me right in the middle of Atlanta and Charlotte (a hour or so drive each way). Travel time from my house to Hickory or High Point, NC and other furniture towns in NC is about 2-3 hours away. How do retailer get the deep discounts? Can you negotiate with furniture stores? Could faxing a request for quote to dealers result in better prices? Could you make a offer for furniture and see if the retailer will bite? What stops the average joe from calling up the same supplier and buying. There has to be a way to get furniture at cost. Any ideas welcomes. Thanks.

Where to buy wood online or at a store?

scootergarrett asked:

I’m looking for good wood to make furniture out of. Lumber yards don’t usually have thick enough stock 8/4 and home depot is garbage so don’t say that. The one online seller that I found is a little expensive, so I’m looking for other websites that sells a wide variety of species in different thicknesses.

What is a good name for an online furniture store?

calvo.amber asked:

It is going to be online only, brand new furniture, mostly from companies like Ashley, Acme, Poundex and Riverside. I have a few ideas but it’d help to have a few more. Any ideas? Thanks!!
We have a furniture store already, with a location in Bellevue, WA, but we are closing it in August and opening it just online. Right now it’s called Estate Furnishings - www.estatefurnishings.com - but people often think it’s used due to the name.

Does this online furniture store look legit?

Yoshi asked:

I found this online furniture store called Austin Furniture (the link is www.austinfurniture.com). They have a desk that I really want for a reasonable price, but the over-simplified and unprofessional look of the website has me a bit concerned about whether I should buy from them or not. Has anybody else heard of or seen this website before?

I am interested in opening a furniture store online. Where do I buy wholesale furniture from?

GG asked:

Most furniture manufacturers say they are not interested in working with me when I tell them that I am going to sell thier products on a website. Can I tell them that I will sell it in a brick and mortar store and still sell it online? Do you guys have any suggestions?

Question about an online furniture store?

Jessica O asked:

Ads for this site are found in the back of some magazines I think. It’s like the chandelier something? It has chandelier in the name but they also sell things like furniture and stuff, I’m trying to find it on the web, and I’ve been to the site before, but I forgot the site’s name! All I get are chandelier companies who sell just that!
