jaime asked:

i’ve tried selling it on craigslist and no one bought it. i dont really want to try ebay because people rarely buy furniture used without looking at it first. where can i sell used furniture online or in a store somewhere?

consignment style flea market. you pay $10-20 for a booth, tag your stuff and wait for it to sell

Are there any consignment shops near you that sell furniture?

Craigslist, is usually the best, most inexpensive way to offer your furniture for sale. Perhaps, the things you are trying to sell, are marked too high. Like anything on any market, if it doesn’t sell quickly, then you must consider reducing the amount you’d like to get for it. Try reducing the asking price, and possibly, instead of grouping it all in one posting, list each piece on a seperate posting. You can list your pieces in the newspaper classifieds, but it will cost you. You can hold a garage sale, but then, you will have to purchase a permit to hold garage sale. The flea market is a good idea, but again, it will cost you both money for the stall rental, also the cost of transporting the items to the flea market, and too, your time attending to the items also has value that will cost you. Ebay, is a hassel when dealing with furniture, if you are posting the items yourself. The process of boxing, and shipping to another location is a pain in the backside. Placing the items, with a consignment shop, will also cost you, between 30 to 50 percent commission when the item is sold, plus you may also have to pay a processing fee on top of that, and possibly even pickup and delivery fees if the piece is moved for you. My suggestion of Craigslist, is your best option.

I have had a fair bit of success with selling furniture on ebay and recently bought two chairs as well which was superb and so easy.
Make sure it is clearly marked “for pick up only” and your postage issues disappear and of course do not set too high a price.
Otherwise, try going to a local market and approaching a stall holder who sells things like your furniture (ie things from that era) and see if they will sell it for you for a profit split.

If you can, have an inhome or yard sale, stating everything must go!!! Works really well. . . (just make sure you put up stuff you want to keep or you will be hagled to death:)

you could put an ad in the local paper.. we did that with a treadmill and it was sold within a week

you could try a used furniture store.. like a consignment shop… or some might buy it outright if they think it will sell
