What is your opinion on K-mart, Walmart, or Target furniture?

sportbominable asked:

I don’t have the money to buy real Amish crafted furniture, or furniture from Broyhill or even JC Penney. I found a table that looks nice in the pictures, but it’s from K-mart’s online store. Target has a similar table. The total cost for the farmhouse table with 4 chairs and one bench is $284.94 before taxes and shipping. My mom said the price was really low and asked if the furniture was junk. Well, I really have no idea if it’s junk or not or if it will last against 4 toddlers and a pain in the butt dog that jumps up on the table when you’re not looking. What is your opinion on the quality and craftsmanship of furniture from these stores and do you have an alternative store with similar prices, but better quality? Thanks.

It’s great, cheap and goes with everything!

Not to mention if it does break you can get a second for the price of 1 of the competitors :p HAHA

I am sitting at a $100 walMart computer desk. It is one of the strongest pieces of furniture I have ever used. Well designed and sturdy..

Its made with not that great of quality. It will do - until you are at a place in your life where you can afford the better.

I work at Kmart and I do not recommend buying big items like a table because a lot of things from there break so easily. It isn’t reliable. Walmart and Target are pretty good tho.

I think out of the 3 Target may be the better when i comes to furniture…and I think for your intended wear and tear of the furniture it should be considered the most sturdy out of the 3….but still because you didn’t just save up and and spend maybe the extra 100 or 200 dollars you may have junk within the next 6 months. I think maybe if you looking for the farmhouse table with the bench or even a breakfast nook table with a bench you should look at Ikea. They usually have pretty sturdy products with good prices….hope this helps…Good Luck!

Well, you get what you pay for. And, by buying off brand furniture, you save money up front. But, you’ll be replacing it sooner.

I have had good luck with furniture from independent furniture dealers. They have catalogs full of furniture that you can look through and order through them. But, you can see samples (maybe a different style or color) of the pieces you’re considering and determine if they’re decent quality. Or you can buy stuff right off the showroom floor.

I’ve also seen good deals at consignment stores, where people drop their used furniture off at a warehouse, and the company gets a 20% or whatever commission for selling the furniture off their showroom. Some people get rid of pretty nice stuff at these places and you can usually get it for less than half of what it would cost new.

This is not furniture you will have all of your life, but it should last for a few good years. The biggest factor is usually in assembly, which you will have to do yourself. I bought a cheap entertainment center from Cost Plus World Market for $500 that would have cost me $4,000 at Pottery Barn, but my dad was a carpenter so he assembled it for me and it turned out beautifully. The reason I stress assembly is that one of the pieces was bowed (bent) but my dad was able to fix it and put it together so that it didn’t wobble. He also did some extra things not called for in the directions to help keep the piece stable, like adding wood glue. The good thing though about buying from Target or Kmart is that you can buy based on your likes now without worrying that you are spending a ton of money on something you won’t like 2 years from now.

When my daughter moved to Florida, we went to Kmart and bought her a pub table with four chairs. I put it together and believe me, it is sturdy. It looks great and everyone thinks it came from Pottery Barn when they see it. Kmart is owned by Sears and they have excellent products. I have friends that bought Walmart furniture and it broke within a few months.

    Go with Walmart’s Canopy collection.

It’s easy to put together. And I can’t believe how good the quality is. I bout from Target. Eh ok.. I don’t have any of their items anymore they fell apart. Kmart is a no no unless you are doing outdoor patio furniture.

I have got furniture from Walmart but it is very flimsy to say the least. I definitely would not trust it with 4 toddlers. I think you are looking in the wrong places. Try looking in the newspaper, garage sales, flea market, or build your own table. With 4 toddlers and a dog you would be safer with a picnic table. You should have no problem finding a used table for less than $200 that would be a far better deal.
